hosts

In this series of digital photographs, I explore the intimate relationship between the eucharist as the body of Christ and the unique bodies of faithful individuals. I have photographed at close range a seventy-eight year old man, a forty year old woman, a thirty-six year old woman who is pregnant, a twenty-eight year old man and an eight year old boy. Over top of their torsos I have superimposed the image of the crucified Jesus that is commonly found stamped on the surface of the eucharistic wafer or host (which I have captured as a monoprint and then digitalized.) It is my hope that Hosts will invite people to consider their own bodies, with their inherent power, frailty, ambiguity, and idiosyncrasies, as authentic bearer for the divine.
